YES! (accomplishments): I am so proud that I can apply the meaning of "time management" to my work schedule this quarter. It was immensely important considering first semester was when marching band started getting bigger and the mountains of projects (or so it seemed like) started piling up. I also joined 7th period band and robotics to my already 'social-life-deprived' schedule. Doesn't that just spell 'sleep-deprivation', huh? Although I now know how many hours I can go without sleep, I am always looking for new ways to save my time. I've continued to keep a regular calendar to track my assignments and events, and my school planner looks like a huge color coded scratch pad.
EHH... (challenges): A big challenge I had this year was group work. Because it is the second year with everyone, students and teachers, I have a better main idea of what everyone is like, and what they expect out of me. The hard part, however, is picking and working in groups. Like every other person (although we don't really want to say it), we know who does the work on time, and who doesn't. When we have to choose our own groups- it is sort of like a set system, where certain groups of people are always together. In a way it is good because we can always get after each other for not doing work, or we know that we work well with them to begin with. The down side is when a person can no longer work effectively with them, its hard to switch groups because it seems as if everyone else has a place. As for randomly picked groups, depending on who is in the team, it’s hard to get everyone motivated to do the same amount of work to finish the project. I am one of those people who has been stuck finishing the butt end of a project, due to lack of planning, ‘piggy-backing’, or just pure laziness of other teammates.
Hmm,(goals): I think I’ve gotten way better at writing shorter comments on blogs (this was my quarter one goal). The think I want to work on now is the selection of words I use. In the sense of word choice I’m doing alright. The part I want to focus on is cutting down on run-on sentences and not being too wordy. I realize that it can distract readers as it subtracts from ideas, making for a much weaker impact of writing.
